Lily hadn't felt more confused in her entire life. There was something about Sam Nott that she couldn't quite put her finger on that she liked about him. He was sweet and kind to her when other Slytherins were rude and obnoxious, aside from her own brother Albus. Lily felt that she was weird for a Gryffindor, since she enjoyed Potions and didn't mind hanging out with Slytherins, but never really voiced that opinion otherwise. She liked being a Gryffindor since most of her family was and had been for generations, but she hated the prejudice that a lot of them still carried for people in Slytherin and vice versa. She could understand a little friendly rivalry, but for an all out hatred of the other house was a little ridiculous in her mind. Her thoughts drifted to that as she went back to her house from her Herbology class. Giving the password to the Fat Lady, she went up to the common room of the Gryffindor tower before going into the girls' dormatory.
Walking over to her bed, she threw her books down and looked over to see if Rose was around. She needed to talk to her cousin at a time like this. "Rose?" she called, wondering if she was in the dorm at all. "If you're in here, it's Lily. I need to talk to someone." She hoped her cousin was within earshot and had time to talk to her. Rose was a fifth year, so she was a lot more busy preparing for her OWL exams. She remembered her mother mentioning that they were one of the most stressful exams any witch or wizard could take during their school years and Lily was already dreading them. She could start studying over the summer holidays when she had more time to focus outside of her schoolwork for this year.

Her bed was cluttered with book, parchment, quills, ink vials, her wand, and a number of other objects, as well as herself. Rose was completely immersed in her school work. Her teachers had piled on the homework, no doubt trying to get them ready for the OWLs. Rose didn't blame them; it made them look bad if students failed. Rose was confident that she'd pass with flying colors though. She intended on doing nothing but study during her free time, taking breaks only when absolutely necessary. She wanted to keep her options open after she graduated from Hogwarts. She still wasn't exactly sure what she wanted to do with her life, so she was planning on taking the classes needed to become an auror. If she had those down, she could pretty much do anything she wanted. The hardest one for her though, was potions. She liked Professor Degare enough, but sometimes she just felt helpless. Perhaps she could go down for extra help sometime. She'd have to talk to Degare. Transfigurations, on the other hand, Rosie was a pro at. She was gliding through, top of her class. Professor Morgan made it fun, and she supposed that's why she was so good at it.
Rose was brought from her concentration when she heard her name. Lily had entered the dorm, looking for her. Leaning over, Rose pulled the curtains on her bed open and peeked her head out. "In here, Lil." She pushed them all the way open and cleared some space on her bed for Lily to sit down. As soon as Rose saw the look on her face, she became concerned. "Lily... What's the matter?"

Lily knew that she was only fourteen-years-old and most fourth years didn't have relationship problems, but she was not a stereotypical fourth year. She was a lot more mature than most girls her age because she hung out with her older cousins all the time. That and her intelligence level was of that near sixth year status, but she didn't tell most people that knowledge. She preferred to just do well on her exams and not show off in front of the class since she was kind of shy. As she looked around, she saw Rose draw back the curtains of her bed and peek her head out. Lily came over and sat down where Rose pushed back the things on the bed, looking at her cousin with wide eyes full of concern and confusion. She had never felt like this, even when she was younger and wondered why she couldn't go to Hogwarts when all her cousins and siblings were already there.
As Rose asked what was the matter, Lily knew she couldn't hold it in around her favorite cousin for much longer and decided it was better to just let it out. "Okay, so there is this guy that I like...I know I'm young to like boys, but that is besides the point. The point is I like him and he isn't exactly...well likable material in our family...at least from some people's perspective, like my brother James," she said quickly, letting everything pour out of her at once like a fountain. "He's um...he's a Slytherin. His name is Sam Nott and he is really sweet. I think you'd like him too if you knew him Rosie. He isn't like other Slytherins at all, just like Albus isn't either." Lily knew that she and Rose both loved Albus dearly, so she hoped her cousin could see where she was coming from.
